James Nathan Gause, 83, Army Veteran of Bladenboro, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 5, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents: James Clarence Gause and Bertie Callihan Gause, three brothers: Roland Gause, Mitchell Gause, and Cary Gause, and one sister: Mable Fields. James leaves behind the mother of his children and wife of 36 years, Virginia Gause of Bladenboro; two sons: Rocky Gause and wife Jan of Bladenboro; Johnny Gause and wife Mary Jo of Fayetteville; two daughters: Jackie Packer and husband Joe of Bladenboro; Jennifer Phillips and husband Kash, also of Bladenboro; three brothers: Tommy Gause and wife Carolyn of Bladenboro; Oliver Gause and wife Ellen of Elizabethtown; Larry Gause and wife Jeanne of Supply; one sister: Thelma Tugwell and husband Bobby of Farmville; nine grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
James loved his family and his church. He was one of the first pastors at the Elizabethtown Church of God and hung wallpaper for about 44 years. James enjoyed telling others about Jesus, he even left a signature bible verse behind his work. People found scriptures left there when taking the wallpaper down. He was loved by everyone. After retiring, he spent time walking everywhere in town sharing the gospel and his great sense of humor. James ate at Bensons everyday and enjoyed spending time fishing with his children as well as his grandchildren. He could always be seen with a smile on his face even on his darkest days. That gleaming smile is now shining as he walks those streets of gold and will forever be remembered in the hearts of all that had the pleasure of knowing him.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 pm on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at Bladenboro Church of God. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 8th at 3:00 pm at Bladenboro Church of God with Rev. Oneil Parker and Rev. Clifton Edwards officiating. Burial will follow the services in the Lewis Cemetery in Bladenboro.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be sent to Lower Cape Fear Hospice Angel House, 206 Warrior Trail, Whiteville, NC 28472.
