James "Jim" Larcen Allen, Sr. of Tar Heel passed away on October 18th, 2024. He was born February 22, 1937 to the late Jeff and Mamie Allen. He was the youngest of 4 brothers and 1 sister and was the last surviving sibling. Left to cherish his memories are his son Jimmy(wife Trish) and daughter Susan(husband Stevie) both of Tar Heel. Also 7 grandchildren Jonathan, Kendall, Kameron, Jared, Ty, Nikki and Dakota and 10 great grandchildren Noah, Jonah, Natalie, Kenlee, Keira, Charlotte, Bailey, Brystol, Brody & Brooks.
Jim graduated from Tar Heel High School in 1956. After graduation he served 4 years in the US Air Force and 9 years in the US Army including 2 tours in Vietnam and retired as a Captain. Jim was awarded numerous awards and badges which include the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, National Defense, Combat Infantryman, Republic of Vietnam Campaign expert badge, Sharp Shooter, Marksman and Parachutist badges.
Upon retiring from the US Army, Jim and family resided in Denver, Colorado where Jim worked with Uniroyal Tire Company. Jim then made the decision to move back to his family home of Tar Heel. Jim continued his college education at Pembroke State University and received a BS business degree. Upon completion he began working at Bladen Tech as the Veterans Administrator and taught accounting. After retiring from Bladen Tech he worked at Coastal Window and Door Center for many years retiring in 2017.
Jim loved his family and especially talking about the good old days of his brothers and sister and growing up on the farm. He had a passion for feeding others and for several years he would deliver Church's chicken or Sam's rotisserie chicken to many people on Sunday's after church until his health declined. He loved watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports. Jim was a member of Tar Heel Baptist Church and served in different capacities throughout the years.
The family will receive friends from 11-11:45am on Wednesday, October 23rd at Tar Heel Baptist Church with a funeral service at 12pm. Pastor Tommy Puryear and Reverend Warren Hill will be officiating the service . Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriner's organization or to the Disabled Veterans PO Box 14301 Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
