James William Long, 81, U.S. Air Force Veteran, of St. Pauls passed away on Monday, February 10, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Leonard Long and Mae Herring Long, his wife, Margie Leen Watson Long, two brothers, Marshall and James Long and four sisters, Betty Flower, Barbara Caulder, Addie Mae Soles and Patsy Horn. James leaves behind two sons, Donald James Long (Sherry) of Hope Mills; Eric Eugene Long (Tori) of St. Pauls; one daughter, Treasia Long Melvin (Ted) of St. Pauls; two brothers, Dwight “Pete” Long of Bladenboro; Huey Long of Tar Heel; four sisters, Phyllis Riley of Lumberton; Judy Hubbard of Grays Creek; Mildred Long of Dublin and Patricia “Elaine” Smith of Tar Heel, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
James was a hardworking, funny and loving family man. He enjoyed spending time with his family, telling jokes, hunting, fishing and tinkering on things. His love for life and vibrant sense of humor will live on in the hearts of those that love him.
The family will receive friends from 2-3 pm on Friday, February 14, 2020 at Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral service is planned for 3 pm with Rev. Tom Atkinson officiating. Burial will follow the services in the Allen Cemetery in Dublin.
