James Skinner

October 14, 1914 — October 28, 2015

Reverend James Don Skinner, Sr., 101, of Elizabethtown passed away October 28, 2015. He is preceded in death by his wife, Josie Bellwood Skinner and his son, Rev. James Don Skinner, Jr. He is survived by his son, Gerald Skinner and wife JoAnn of Jacksonville; and daughter, Gayle Brown and husband Gene of Elizabethtown; and seven grandchildren, Reggie Skinner, Gene Brown and wife Cynthia, Matthew Brown, Emily Brown, Steve Skinner and wife Marie, Donna Salvia and Cathy Skinner; and 10 great-grandchildren.

J. Don received a BS degree in accounting from the University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC. He worked for a year in accounting and then attended Seminary in Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia. He was honored to serve his Lord in pastorates including: Donaldsonville, GA, Williamston, NC, Burlington, NC, Jacksonville, NC Warsaw, NC and Brunswick, NC. He loved building and conducted building projects at each of his pastorates. His partner in ministry was his beloved wife Josie who served at his side for 64 years. To God be the glory for the things He has done.

A celebration of life will be held Friday, October 30, 2105 at 2:00 p.m. at Elizabethtown Baptist Church with Dr. David Elks officiating. The family will receive friends at Elizabethtown Baptist Church following the celebration of life service.

Thanks to Bladen County Hospital for the 12:01 a.m. birthday party with balloons and cake. Thanks to the staff of Elizabethtown Nursing Center, Housekeepers, CNAs, Nursing and Administrators who have provided excellant care and counseling.
