Jane Sanderlin Morgan, 93, of Council entered into rest on Saturday, December 3, 2016.
She is preceded in death by her parents Hobson and Helen Sanderlin and one son Duke Morgan. Jane is survived by son Hobson Morgan and wife Joy of Wilmington, sister Nancy Collier of Whiteville, three grandchildren: Hunter, Brian, and Owen and three great grandchildren: Carrie, Luke, and Owen Bradley.
Jane obtained her BA in Dramatic Art from Greensboro College in 1944. She did her graduate studies at UNC Chapel Hill and Northwestern University and obtained her master's degree in Religious Education from Scaritt College in Nashville, TN. After completing her education, Jane wrote and directed several plays including: Wings in the Sun, The Dickinsons, A Folk Wedding, and Sand Creek. She was most famous for her lead role as "Flora MacDonald" in the symphonic drama Flora MacDonald in Scotland.
She taught in the NC Public School System for many years including New Hanover, Columbus and Bladen counties. Among her other accomplishments, she was a professor of English at High Point College, an author of a weekly column for Bladen Journal "Down Our Way" stories of local interests, a member of The Dram Tree Tellers (story telling group) and a lifetime member of Carvers Creek United Methodist Church in Council, NC.
Funeral services will be Thursday, December 8, 2016 at 2 pm at Carvers Creek UMC officiated by Rev. Jimmy Tatum followed by burial in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held in the church fellowship hall after the services.
