Jerry Burney

Jerry Swain Burney, 78, of White Oak passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Franklin Burney and Mabel Bryan Burney, his wife, Jean Carter Burney, and one brother, Franklin Hugh Burney. Jerry is survived by three daughters: Toni Burney of White Oak, Teresa Burney of White Oak; Jennifer “Donna” Bobby (Matt) of White Oak; one brother, Samuel Burney (Sherree) of Summerville, SC; two sisters, Glynda McLamb (Richard) of White Oak; Bonnie Meeker (Bob) of Tar Heel; seven grandchildren: Justin Burney, Kayla Tipton (Josh), Michael Nunnery Jr., Christopher Batton, Autmn Laning (Zack), Matthew Bobby Jr.(Rikishia), and Hannah Bobby and four great grandchildren: Natalie Tipton, Carson Tipton, Landon Nunnery and Dakota Burney.

Jerry was a loving, hardworking family man. He adored his late wife, Jean Burney, until her untimely death in March 2000. Jerry was a simple man. It did not take much to satisfy him. He loved to be outdoors, usually working on something. He enjoyed eating, especially cornbread, fat back and greens with a glass of sweet iced tea. He will be missed for his witty sense of humor and his compassion for others.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 1, 2020 at 3:00 pm at the White Oak Memorial Gardens Cemetery in White Oak with Rev. Donald K. Carter and Rev. Tommy Tatum officiating. Attendees are asked to practice social distancing.
