Joan Marie Mabe

Joan Marie Mabe passed peacefully on Wednesday, May 17th, 2023. She is survived by two daughters; a beloved brother and sister; and a whole fluffle of grandchildren and great-grandchildren that would make any mother proud.

Mama Mabe was best known for a southern drawl that was pure dripping sugar - as sweet as her Christmas confections. She was most known for loving her husband, Richard Mabe, and there is no doubt that she was welcomed into his loving arms as she crossed. Her last years remind us all that a sweet reunion awaits us when we cross over.

Let us not forget that she was the world’s cutest Carolina basketball fan - as Papa Mabe was a Duke fan, this was only a testament to her love for him, as she cheered Duke on when they weren’t contesting UNC.

Mama Mabe was down-to-earth and loving, always wearing her hair whipped to perfection, like any southern belle, with the most beautiful hands and elegant nails. Boy did she love pink, with pink or red lipstick always as her signature color. She was smart and strong and the type of kind that they just don’t make anymore. Mama Mabe broke the mold. Her laugh, her smile, her loving care, her humor - she will be remembered fondly.

Her family plans to plant flowers and spruce up a lovely seating area for the memory care residents of West Bladen Assisted Living - her friends and neighbors who she had grown to love during her time there. A visitation will be held at Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home on Saturday, May 20th. We invite the family to a private viewing from 10:00-11am. Friends will be welcome from 11:00-1:00 pm. A graveside service will follow at Parkton Cemetery at 3:00 pm.
