Joann Howell

JoAnn Mercer Howell,74 of Elizabethtown passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 in the comforts of her home after a long, struggle with Alzheimer's disease.
JoAnn Mercer Howell, born in Wilson, NC December 29, 1940 to the late Wiley Bronson Mercer and Willie Rogerson Mercer. She was a 1959 graduate of Lee- Woodard High School.

JoAnn is survived by her husband, Roy E. Howell, sons, Kelly and wife Sadie Howell and John Howell and wife Heather, and Daughters, Cindy Ervin husband Paul, Karen Howell, and Jane Salmon husband John, Brothers, James L. Mercer, Steve Mercer, and sister, Elizabeth Mercer. 6 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 7 step-great grandchildren. Numerous cousins from the Wilson/Kenly area.

JoAnn was married to her husband Roy, for 56 years. Loving wife and mother, JoAnn enjoyed being a homemaker. Later, she was a hostess at Giorgio's Restaurant. A longtime member of Wesley's Chapel Church, she loved so dear. She volunteered with the Golden Nuggets group for many years.

The children would like extend their love and admiration to their father Roy for his devoted continual care of our mother during her illness.

JoAnn's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you, love and appreciation to caregiver Donette Perry, Friends Jane Ross, Robert and Sarah Hester. Neighbors and church family for their kindnesses, and the staff at Lower Cape Fear Hospice.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Wesley's Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Darrell Copeland and Pastor Joe Cockrell officiating. The family will receive friends in the Multi-purpose Building after the service.
