John “Johnny” Barry Gibson, 52, of Tar Heel, NC passed away on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at the Betsy Johnson Hospital in Dunn, NC. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Willis Asberry Hayes and Elizabeth Jackson Baddorff, paternal grandparents, Elizabeth Jane Baker and Robert Henry Gibson, one aunt Janet E. Callihan and one uncle Thomas “Tommy” E. Priest. Johnny is survived by his father, Van Gibson of Raeford, his mother, Jenny Hayes Carroll and Tim “Ziggy” Carroll of the home, three sisters, Beth Gibson Peedin (Jeff) of Smithfield, Kelly Maria Lewis (Cameron) of Bladenboro, and Brittany Gause of Bladenboro, three nieces, Jillian Peedin, Anna Lewis, and Santana Taylor and three nephews, Noah Lewis, Stephen Lewis, and Bryson Allen.
Johnny was a loving soul. He had cancer as a teen and became permanently disabled as a result. He did not let his disability define him for his nickname became “Handy-Man”. He enjoyed fixing things, especially mechanic work and he was always a hands-on kind of guy. When not playing video games or playing with his pets, you could find him with a fishing pole in hand. Johnny loved the Lord and people and was very giving in the church. He enjoyed inviting everyone to attend church with him. Johnny will be missed for his jokes, his welcoming smile, and his ability to make others smile.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm to 1:45 pm on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at Center Road Baptist Church followed by a funeral service at 2:00 pm. Rev. Adam Self, Rev. Randy Andrews, and Rev. Cameron Lewis will be officiating. Services will conclude in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Funeral Fund of Johnny Gibson c/o Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home, P.O. Box 3150, Elizabethtown, NC 28337.
