John Wayne Packer

John Wayne Packer, 81, of Clarkton passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Leah Packer.

John leaves behind his wife, Mary Alice Packer of the home; son, Terry Wayne Packer of Spring Lake; daughters: Lori Dempsey and husband Sam of Wilmington, Amy Packer of Asheville; grandchildren: Tristen Packer of Cullowhee, NC and Will Dempsey of Clarkton.

John graduated from Clarkton High School in 1962 after winning the 1961 state championship in football. He adored the time spent with each of his family members. He was an avid hunter, lifetime member of the Jaycee’s, and also served as the state president for the Jaycee club. Before he became sick, he loved to mow, garden, and do home repairs for the elderly. His kind and compassionate spirit will forever be remembered.  

A funeral service will be held at 11am on Monday, March 18^th at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. Burial will follow in the Brown Marsh Cemetery in Clarkton. Immediately after burial, the family will receive friends at the cemetery.
