Johnny Bennett

Johnny Richard Bennett, age 74, of Bladenboro passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2015. He was born on July 2, 1941 to Margaret and Johnnie Bennett. He graduated from Bladenboro High School in 1959. He was a lifelong resident of Bladenboro, NC except for the four years he served in the US Navy.

Richard married the love of his life, Della Sandra Woodard on September 5th 1964. Though they lost several children, the Lord blessed them with a son and a daughter.

He was a member of Galeed Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday school teacher, Youth Group leader, choir member and Deacon during a lifespan of attendance. Richard loved studying and teaching God's word, The Bible and if you met him you were going to hear a lesson from it. He supported missions, both near and far.

He retired from both US Postal Service (1990) and Woodmen of the World Life Insurance (1996).
Richard's passion in life, after Jesus Christ, was Della, his family, good food, a good debate and fishing.
His favorite hobby is revealing, since he became a fisher of men as part of his service to God.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Johnnie and Margaret, daughters: Stephanie Lynn and Melissa Dell and twin sons.

Richard is survived by his wife of 51 years, Della; his son, Donnie Bennett and daughter-in-law Samantha of Lumberton; daughter, Julie Bennett Ward and son-in-law Jamie of Whiteville; four grandchildren, Tyler Blake Bennett, Megan Alexis Bennett, Jake Wesley Ward and Jared Walton Ward. His only sibling, Kathy Bennett of Myrtle Beach, SC and more dear relatives and friends than can be listed.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Galeed Baptist Church. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at 3:00 pm at Galeed Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Williams, Rev. Warren Hill, Rev. Ronnie Wilson and Rev. Barry Galyean officiating. Burial will follow at Galeed Baptist Church Cemetery
