Kathy Mcvicker

Kathy Gail Collins McVicker went to her eternal home on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 after a long battle with cancer.

She was born to the late Evelyn Lindsey Collins and George Collins Jr. on July 26, 1953, in Robeson County, NC. She is survived by her husband, James “Jim” Atlas McVicker, two sons, Philip Anthony Collins (Tammi) and James Atlas McVicker Jr. (Kate), sisters, Martha Andrews (Danny) and Faye Grimes (Stuart), brother Michael Collins (Karen), four grandchildren, Scott Collins (Deidre), Mary C. Orr (Brandon), Abigail Collins and James McVicker, and three great grandsons, Jace, River, and Brantley.

Along with her parents, Kathy was preceded in death by her stepfather Paul Frease, one brother, Lindsay Collins, and a nephew, Tilman McLellan.

Kathy was employed with Canal Wood, LLC in Lumberton, NC for 49 years. She was an extremely dedicated woman to not only her family but to her job. She spent a lifetime giving them the very best of herself. Kathy enjoyed attending church until she was no longer able. She and Jim were dedicated members of the Singletary UMC in Dublin. Kathy was known for her deep compassion, gentle spirit, and devotion. Her giving spirit will be remembered always.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 pm on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 11, 2022 at 2 pm at New Light Church, 307 Chestnut St. in Bladenboro.  Masks will be available at the service and highly recommended by the family. Burial will follow the services in the Rowland Cemetery, 238 Rowland Cemetery Rd in Rowland. There will be no funeral procession, but all are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Singletary UMC in Dublin, 241 3rd St. Dublin, NC 28332 or Bethel Baptist Church, 735 Old Hwy 41, Tar Heel, NC 28392.

The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to the staff of Duke Cancer Center and Liberty Hospice for the love and care given to Kathy during her illness. Also, a special thank you to Brittany Lindsay, FNP-C, for the great care administered during this time.
