Kenneth Pope

September 28, 1935 — February 5, 2008

Mr. Kenneth K. Pope, 72, of Clarkton departed this life on Tuesday, February 5, 2008 in his home. He had fought a courageous battle with cancer for the past six years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kirby Smith and Marie Squires Pope.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Sanderson Pope; three daughters, Cindy Pope Clark and husband Mike of Fayetteville, N.C.; Rosemary Pope Bengtson and husband Walter of Clarkton, Jayna Pope McDonald and husband Dean of Moorehead City, N.C.; one son, Jeffrey Pope and wife Susan of Rocky Mount, N.C.; Eight grandchildren; George Clark, Colon Melvin, David Clark, Carl Clark, Brandi Melvin, Jessica McDonald, Brett McDonald, an Deanna Pope. A special grandson, Kenneth Alligood who made his home with his grandparents. One step-daughter, Sarah Chauncey Thompson and husband Johnnie of Clarkton; one step-son, Bill Chauncey an wife Lois of Charleston S.C.; and six step-grandchildren. One brother, Gary Pope and wife Mary of Clarkton,

Kenneth worked many years for Veeder Root and then Danaher and was a lifelong farmer. He worked as a volunteer EMT with Clarkton Rescue Squad for thiry-five years, serving several terms as Chief. He was on the Board of Directors for Clarkton Rescue Squard, several years as Chairman of the Board. He was a member of Clarkton First Baptist Church.

The family will recieve friends Thursday, February 7, 2008 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Bladen Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held on Friday, February 8, 2008 at 11:00 am at Clarkton Cemetery with Larry Pittman officiating.
