Laura Butler Ward Blount, 95, of Elizabethtown went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 20, 2024 at Cape Fear Valley-Bladen County Hospital in Elizabethtown surrounded by her family. Laura was born to the late Jurdie Velton Butler, Sr. and Mildred Memory Butler on November 9, 1929 in Bladen County. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Archie G. Ward, Jr., brother, J.V. Butler, Jr. and sister-in-law, Pauline Butler.
Laura leaves behind her daughters: Paula Schultz and husband Mike of Fuquay Varina, Teresa Bordeaux of Dublin, Kathi Ward and husband Ricky of Dublin; sisters: Jewel Skinner, Claudette Smith and Ruby McDuffie; grandchildren: Felicia Britt, Danny Britt, Jill Laura Frisley (Chris), Archie Bordeaux, Ashley “Stumpy” Bordeaux (Amber), Willie Ward (Whitley), Stanley Ward (Julia) and several great grandchildren.
Laura Butler Blount was born in Dublin, North Carolina to Velton and Mildred Butler. She was the eldest of five children, who she often had to care for. She was very independent and hard-working, and raised three daughters on her own after their father passed when they were very young. She retired from the A&P after working there for 30 years, and proceeded to live her life to the fullest. She has helped care for grandchildren and great grandchildren, in addition to visiting every state in the United States, and many countries outside of the United States. She loved competing in the senior Olympics. She won thousands of medals. She loved playing Basketball and bowling. She played softball on a men's team and also a women's team. She was noted for walking to Dublin and back to get her exercise in. She competed in all the sports they allowed. Mother was a Fine Christian lady and loved her church.
The family will receive friends from 12:30pm-1:45pm on Monday, December 23rd at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with a funeral service at 2pm. Reverend Mike Burney, Reverend Don Carlyle and Chaplain Nate Watts will officiate service. Burial will follow in the Singletary Church Cemetery in Dublin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dublin Pentecostal Freewill Baptist Church 6964 Albert St. Hwy 87, Dublin, NC 28332.
