ELIZABETHTOWN, NC - Lisley Yandle Allen, 90, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Bladen County Hospital with her children by her side. She is predeceased by her parents R. C. Yandle and Frances McKeithan Yandle; her husband, Charles Davis Allen, Sr; and daughter-in-law, Rosemary Bostic Allen.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Charles Davis Allen, Jr. and daughter, Nancy Allen Clark and husband Ed ("Ebbie") of Elizabethtown; grandchildren Dr. Charles Davis Allen, III and wife Britt of Asheville; Blake Allen Shaw and husband Richard "Sling" Shaw of Elizabethtown; Edward Breeden Clark, III and wife Amanda of Ellicott City, MD; and H. Allen Clark of Asheville; great-grandchildren Emma Clark and Charles Shane Allen; sister, Jean Morgan and brother David Yandle of Elizabethtown; and many special nieces and nephews.
She loved and appreciated her special caregivers, who were so dear to her.
Mrs. Allen was born in Clarkton on March 20, 1926. She grew up in Elizabethtown and graduated from Elizabethtown High School in 1944 and married Charles that same year. They lived in Florida for two years while he was serving in the Navy before returning to Elizabethtown to make their home. She was deeply devoted to her family and cherished time spent with them. She greeted everyone with a warm smile at family get-togethers, and she loved preparing homemade meals for her family to enjoy. Mrs. Allen loved her children dearly. She insisted her children study their Sunday School lesson before going to church, and she loved taking them shopping before school started each year to get new clothes and school supplies. The core and thrust of her life was about family and sacrificially providing her best to them.
Until recently, Mrs. Allen was an active member of the Elizabethtown Baptist Church, which was always important to her. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, played the piano for the junior children's choir and the Baptist Training Union, volunteered at Vacation Bible School, and was a member of the Women's Missionary Union.
The service will be held Saturday, January 7 at 11 o'clock in the morning at the Elizabethtown Baptist Church with Dr. David S. Elks and Rev. Nathan Morton officiating. The burial will follow at the Elizabethtown City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday morning in the church sanctuary from 9:30-10:45 and at other times at the home of Nancy Clark.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Elizabethtown Baptist Church, 1800 West Broad St., Elizabethtown, NC 28337.
