Lola Johnson

July 17, 1937 — June 15, 2018

Lola Dove Johnson, 80, of Bladenboro passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Friday, June 15, 2018. Lola was born on July 17, 1937 to the late Ila and Gaston Dove. After graduating from Bladenboro High School, she attended Kings Business School. On April 18, 1957, she married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Lyn Johnson. They were married for 61 years. Together they raised four daughters. Lola was a working mother. She was employed with the Bladen County School System as an assistant teacher until her retirement in 1999.

Lola was a Godly woman and a true example of her Christian faith to her family and her community. In her spare time, she enjoyed participating in church activities, sewing, and loving on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved the color pink and was rarely seen outside the home without her lipstick. Her sense of humor and beautiful smile will truly be missed.

Lola was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters: Hazel Russ and JoAnn Baldwin. She is survived by husband: Lyn Johnson of the home; four daughters: Tammy Lowrimore of Bladenboro, Joy Polzin and husband Jeff of Cary, Paula Johnson of Cary, Laura Johnson of the home two sisters: Joyce Ward and husband Wilbur of Clarkton, Linda Bordeaux of Virginia; brother-in-law: Kelly Baldwin and wife Eunice of Bladenboro; sisters-in-law: Betsy Reep of Alabama, Mary Paul Kern of Lumberton, and Alene Johnson of Bladenboro; six grandchildren: Joseph Hinson (Allison), Stephen Polzin, Robert Cagle (Crystal), Megan Polzin, Allee Johnson, Rachel Polzin; three great-grandchildren: Richard "Boo" Powell, Cheyenne Davis, Naomi Hinson and many nieces and nephews. A special thank you to Yvonne Hall and Lower Cape Fear Hospice for all of your love, tender care and support that you gave to us and our mama.

In lieu flowers, donations may be made to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice 206 Warrior Trail Whiteville, NC 28472.

A private burial will be held on Monday, June 18, 2018 at 11am followed by a visitation at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Bladenboro from 1:30-3pm and memorial service at 3pm.
