Lonnie Ray Miller, 83, of Charlotte, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2012 . He was born on May 13, 1928 in Albemarle, NC to the late Oscar and Sula Miller. Lonnie served his country for 4 years during WWII in the US Navy. He was employed by Pilot Life insurance for 28 years and retired from Columbia Beauty Supply. Lonnie was a faithful member of Selwyn Ave. Presbyterian Church and served as both a Deacon and Elder. Lonnie loved golf, tennis, SOS and trips to N. Myrtle Beach but most of all he loved family and friends.
Lonnie is preceded in death by his brothers, Dr. Ken Miller and Gary Miller. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Merle Gooden Miller; daughter, Denise Johnson and son-in-law, Phil of Gallatin, TN; son, Ray Miller of South Weber, UT; granddaughters, Shannon Miller of The Woodlands, TX and Lauren J. Porterfield and husband Tim of Roswell, GA; great-grandchildren, Marissa Miller and Hunter Porterfield; sister, Norma Jean Dean of Norfolk, VA; sister-in-laws, Doris Cook and Nadine Evans of Elizabethtown, Florence Cox of Clarkton and brother-in-law, John Gooden and wife, Nancy, of Morehead City, NC; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 30, at 2:00pm at Bladen Memorial Gardens.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, January 28 at 2:00 pm at Selwyn Ave. Presbyterian Church, 2929 Selwyn Ave., Charlotte, NC 28209 immediately followed by a visitation in the Fellowship Hall. The family wishes to thank the staff of Clare Bridge at Carriage Club for their loving kindness and care of Lonnie.
