Lonnie Raymond “Randy” King, 67, of Elizabethtown passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie Ronald King and Elizabeth “Anne” McBride King and his wife Linda Herring King. Left to cherish his memory are son, Eric King and wife Jessica of Jacksonville, brothers Jerry King and wife Betty of Greenville, Larry King and wife Phyllis of Elizabethtown, sister Rhonda Bordeaux and husband Murray of Elizabethtown, three grandchildren Linda Elizabeth “Lizzy” King, Jacob King, and James Dalbender, and several nieces and nephews.
Randy was a world class trumpet player from a young age. When he was 17, he played with Gladys Knight and the Pips at the Cumberland County Auditorium. As he got older, he played with several groups including the River Boat Gamblers, the NC Jazz Ensemble, and the Army Band. Randy was a part of the Singing Christmas Tree in Fayetteville and played often at weddings and funerals. He enjoyed collecting arrow heads and attending Civil War reenactments. Randy was a loving, passionate man who adored his family. He was a salesman for various newspapers and later retired to take care of his wife, Linda. He dearly missed his wife after her passing. His family finds comfort in knowing they are reunited again. He will be missed for his compassion and his musical talents.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 20th in the Grimes Cemetery with the Reverend Al Marshburn. At other times, the family will greet friends at the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Rhonda and Murray Bordeaux, 3667 Owen Hill Rd, Elizabethtown, NC 28337.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Funeral Fund of Randy King, c/o Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home, PO Box 3150, Elizabethtown, NC 28337.
