Loretta Smith Harris

Loretta Smith Harris, 80, of Ammon, NC passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at her home on Tuesday, May 9, 2023. She was born in Elizabethtown, NC, to George and Esther Melvin Smith. Loretta was a graduate of White Oak High School, received a bachelor’s degree in education from Pembroke State University, and received a master’s degree in counseling from North Carolina Central University. She was part of Gamma Xi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. Loretta retired after over thirty years of service in the teaching and counseling profession.

Loretta was preceded in death by her parents and brother James G. (Jimmie) Smith and prior husband Don Jackson. She is survived by her husband Lonnie Harris of the home, son Jeff Jackson (Angela) of Vass, NC, Joey Jackson (Jennifer) of Angier, NC, grandchildren Maggie Jackson, Chole Jackson, and Will Bass (Brytani), two brothers Clifford Smith (Nancy) of Ammon, NC, and Reverend Neill Smith of Fair Bluff, NC, and two sisters Marguerite Coble (Johnny) of Ammon, NC and Paralee McCall (Wayne) of Ammon, NC.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 14, 2023, at 4:00 pm at the Windsor House of God, 12863 Hwy 242 North, Elizabethtown, NC 28337. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 2:30 pm. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
