Louis McRae Brisson, better known as “Koochum” went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, while at Lower Cape Fear Lifecare in Whiteville, NC.
He was born and raised in Bladen County on February 13, 1933, one of five children of the late Lester Brisson and Mary Ann Hester Brisson. He was a Master Mason and a Hearing Officer for the great state of North Carolina for 32 years. He also ran the Brisson’s Cottages at White Lake for several years. Koochum was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Dublin where he served as a deacon and several other capacities for the church. Quite often the things he did on behalf of the church were behind the scenes never desiring recognition or praise, only to serve the Lord and his fellow man. He not only loved his church family but also his own family. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. His children describe him as not only the “Best Dad in the World” but as their “Best Friend”. He was never short of wisdom on any given subject and was always supportive of any endeavor they engaged in. His legacy of love and devotion will continue to carry them for all of their days.
Koochum was preceded in death by his parents, his dear wife, Althea Brisson, two brothers Tommy and Tim Brisson, and one sister, Pinky Hester. Left to cherish his memory are sons, Don Brisson (Deborah) of St. Pauls, Danny Brisson (Teresa) of Dublin, and David Brisson (Cindy) of Florida, one sister Betty Skinner of White Lake, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 9, 2024, from 3-4 pm at the Dublin First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. A funeral service will follow in the sanctuary at 4 pm with the Reverend Jason Lee and the Reverend Warren Hill officiating. Burial will follow the services in the Allen Cemetery in Dublin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Lower Cape Fear Lifecare Angel House, 206 Warrior Trail, Whiteville, NC 28472.
