Ms. Lucille Ward Atkinson, age 94, of Clarkton, passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2022, at her home. She was born on October 8, 1928, in Bladen County, the daughter of the late Archie and Marie Ward. She is survived by her children John Atkinson III, Beth Blackwell and Bruce Atkinson, grandchildren John Atkinson IV, Kevin Atkinson, Jason Atkinson, Jamie Blackwell, Merri Beth Hibbets, Jenni Blackwell, Denise Appel, Jessica Rowland, and Nikki Smith, great grandchildren Erik Atkinson, Damon Atkinson, Tucker Atkinson, Ethan Blackwell, Zander Hibbets, Caitlyn Hibbets, Maddox Blackwell-Currie, Jameson Steiniger, Jackson Rowland, Lane Smith and several nieces and nephews.
Lucille was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She was a Godly woman who always saw the good in everyone. Lucille was a loving wife to her late husband John T. Atkinson Jr. for over 50 years. Her favorite hobbies included growing flowers and feeding her hummingbirds. She enjoyed spending time with her family and helping others. Lucille was a rare gem in this world, and she will be greatly missed by all that she cared for and loved.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm on Friday, December 30, 2022, at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Bladenboro with a funeral service to follow at 2 pm. The Reverend Howard Albright will be officiating. Burial will follow the services in the Bladen Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Elizabethtown.
