Mary Herrington Coley

Mary Herrington Coley, age 94, of Elizabethtown, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 26, 2023, while at Lower Cape Fear Care Center in Whiteville. She was born in Taylorsville, MS, on May 13, 1929, the daughter of the late O.D. Herrington and Mary Lou Sandford Herrington. She is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Reverend Donald R. Coley, one daughter, Patricia Coley Smith, and nine siblings.

Mary leaves behind her sons, Donald L. Coley of the U.S. Virgin Islands and John R. Coley (Kim) of Goldsboro, NC, daughter, Jean Knutson (Robert) of Morganton, NC, six grandchildren Terrel Knutson (Amanda), of Morganton, NC, Eric Knutson of Morganton, NC, Hannah Coley Laster (Randy) of Goldsboro, NC, Brendell Smith (Amber) of Wilmington, NC, Daine Smith (Charlotte) of Elizabethtown, NC, and Nicole Smith of Wilmington, NC, and 13 great-grandchildren, Wyatt Knutson, Owen Knutson, Caleb Knutson, Olivia Knutson, Lucas Knutson, Eli Laster, Aiden Laster, Coley Smith, Ryland Smith, Grayson Smith, Chandler Smith, A.J. Smith (Cara Beth), and Paul Smith. She also leaves behind special caregivers and many friends.

Mary was honored to be the wife of a United States Marine Corps Veteran, a dedicated Pastor's assistant, and a cherished mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Dublin First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in Dublin, NC. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. in the Dublin First Baptist Church Sanctuary with Reverend Jason Lee, Reverend Tommy Knight, and Reverend Cameron McGill officiating. Burial will follow the services in Bladen Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Elizabethtown, NC.
