Mary Helen Hart gained her wings on Thursday, October 31, 2024, joining her parents Gay and Blanche Hart in their heavenly home, after a lengthy illness. She was a fighter and put up a good fight.
She is survived by one son, Charles Courtwright of Springfield, Illinois, and a grandson, Shane Courtwright, her sister, Glenda Uebel (James) of Whiteville, her brothers, Ronald Hart (Sabrina) of Carolina Beach, and David Hart (Sandy) of Cedar Creek, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mary Helen has spent the last 55 years in Springfield, Illinois, where she retired from Franklin Life Insurance. She loved the outdoors, loved her animals and her flowers.
After returning home in April to live with her sister, Mary Helen spent many hours sitting on the front porch, enjoying the fresh air, the birds, flowers, cats, and Ellie. She was fascinated by the multitude of dragon flies that we were blessed with this year as well as the antics of all the hummingbirds.
The family would love to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Whiteville. They have been an absolute blessing to our family and a tower of strength. Thank you, Amelia and Charlene, for your constant support and the wonderful care that you gave to Mary Helen. You will forever be in our hearts. There are no words to express our deepest gratitude.
As per Mary Helen’s wishes, a graveside service will be held at Whites Creek Baptist Church Cemetery on Monday, November 4, 2024, at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, please send your donations to, Lower Cape Fear Hospice Lifecare, 206 Warrior Trail, Whiteville, NC 28472.
