Mary W. Spence, 95, of Bladenboro passed away Wednesday May 27, 2015, peacefully at Glenflora in Lumberton. She was the youngest and last surviving of nine children born to the late W.A. and Lula V. Warwick. She was born, reared and spent her entire life in the Butters Community. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend to all those who knew her.
At the time of her death, she was the oldest living member of Butters Baptist Church having served as church Treasurer for thirty-eight years and as church Pianist for more than forty-five years. She also retired as Postmaster of Butters in 2004 after thirty-eight years of service. In addition to her parents and siblings, she is predeceased by her husband, Charlie Spence and son, Tommy Spence.
She is survived by her son, Howard Carlton "Bub" Spence of the home; daughter-in-law, Sue S. Spence of Bladenboro; granddaughter, Donna L. Spence of Lumberton and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at Butters Baptist Church Fellowship Hall from 1:00 - 2:45 p.m. The service will be held in the church at 3:00 p.m. officiated by Rev. Kevin Kinlaw and Rev. Rick Rigney. Burial will follow at Singletary Cemetery in Butters.
