Mary D. Stocks Buie

Mary Stocks Buie, age 92,  passed away peacefully at her home in Bladenboro, North Carolina on February 6, 2024. She was born to parents Joseph Franklin Stocks and Sadie McKeithan Stocks in Lacoochee, Florida on February 24, 1931, Mary completed her early education in the Columbus County School System. After graduation from Hallsboro High School, she pursued her dream of becoming a nurse at the Baker School of Nursing In Lumberton, North Carolina. She began her long and esteemed nursing career as an operating room nurse at Robeson County Memorial Hospital (Southeastern General Hospital) Later she worked in the office of Dr. Dewey H. Bridger in Bladenboro; the Bladen County Health Department, and retired from the Columbus County Health Department. After retirement, she was an active member of the Bladen County Health Board and the Bladenboro Library Board.  She spent her free time reading and enjoying her family, especially her grandson Stephen. 

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Alexander Buie; both of her parents, and two brothers, Earl Stocks and Troy Stocks.

Mary will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Mary "Randie" Harrelson (Cris) of Bladenboro, her grandson Stephen Harrelson (Chapel Hill, NC), and her two nieces, Lee Stocks Brinkley (Glendale Springs, NC) and Anne Stocks Walker (Kernersville, NC), her precious neighbors Kelly and Eunice Baldwin, Sue and Jerry Brown, Willis and Geraldine Nance, and Elizabeth Pait and many friends that she made along her life journey.

The family would like to thank her caregivers Joyce Alford and Elfriede Hester, both of Bladenboro, for the care and dedication that they demonstrated towards Mary during her illness. They would also like to express their great appreciation to Krista Hardee and Tracy Ross (Liberty Hospice) for the compassion and care that they extended to Mary.

There will be a graveside service at Pinecrest Cemetery on Saturday, February 10th at 11 in the morning. The family will visit with guests after the service.
