Mrs. Mary Tatum Williams, 104 of White Oak, NC died on July 31, 2011 in Raleigh, NC.
Mrs. Williams was a native of Bladen County and was the daughter of the late Mary Lillie Kinlaw Tatum and Daniel Malloy Tatum. She was a member of White Oak Baptist Church and taught a kindergarten Sunday School Class until she was age 99. She sang in the choir for more than 70 years at White Oak Baptist Church and at Temple Baptist Church in Fayetteville. At White Oak High School she was active in athletics and was a member of the girl's basketball team. In December, 2006, she was honored by the Bladen County Board of Commissioners with a 100th birthday party and a resolution of recognition citing her dedication to family and community. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a love for gardening, cooking delicious meals for her family, singing, playing the piano and visiting with her family and friends.
Mrs. Williams was predeceased by her husband, William F. Williams; her daughter, Mary Ann Williams; her son-in-law, Richard Sandridge; five brothers, Jessie, Broadus, Fitzhugh, Earl, and Carlyle Tatum; five sisters, Leone Tatum, Margaret McLaurin, Hallie McClure, Repsie McLaurin and Ruth Parker.
She is survived by her son, Bill Williams and wife Janice of Raleigh, her daughter, Shirley Williams Sandridge of Raleigh, grandsons, Michael Williams and wife Marie of Raleigh, Wayne Williams and wife Sharon of Raleigh, Christopher Sandridge and wife Sandra of Virginia; granddaughter Cathy Williams of Greenville; great Grandson, Jeremy Williams; great granddaughters, Taylor Williams, Rebecca Williams, and Jessica Sandridge one sister, Gretchen Brown of White Oak; and her beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 5, 2011 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 11:00 am from White Oak Baptist Church will Rev. Danny Lewis and Rev. Merle Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the wonderful and supportive members of White Oak Baptist Church, and her neighbors, friends and caregivers who brought comfort to her illness. May God bless all who touched her life in such a positive way.
