Murray Gene Batton, 78, entered into eternal rest on Friday, June 9, 2023 at his home in Bladenboro. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lydia Batton and son, Tendall Batton.
Murray Batton is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Stella Batton, daughter Barretta Smith and son-in-law Jerry Smith. Murray was the greatest Papa to his four grandchildren Bailey Smith, Madilyn Smith, Jordyn Smith and Jerod Smith. He took great pride and often spoke highly of his grandchildren.
Murray Batton leaves behind two sisters, Clementine Singletary of Elizabethtown and Faye Rice and husband Jimmy Rice of White Oak. Mr. Batton also leaves behind one brother Charlie Batton and wife Shirley of Burgaw.
Murray Batton graduated from Bladenboro High School in 1962 and was drafted into the United States Army. After returning home from Korea he worked at Dupont Fayetteville Works in waste water treatment and later retired to work on his farm. Mr. Batton enjoyed driving his tractors, caring for his animals, and growing hay. Mr. Batton always wore a smile even as his health deteriorated. He was always willing to help others in any way he could.
Mr. Batton will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who lived life to the fullest. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family will receive friends from 10-10:45am on Wednesday, June 14th at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral service will follow at 11am with Reverend Charles Hester officiating service. Burial will conclude services in the Storms Cemetery in Bladenboro.
