She is predeceased by her parents, Dr. Arthur Vance and Mary Morris Sugg, and her sister, Mary Susan Sugg Hill.
Nancye was born in Apex, NC on July 24, 1934, and spent much of her early childhood in Dunn, NC. As a teenager Nancye and her family lived in Chicago, IL while her father attended optometric school. Once his studies were complete the family moved back to NC. Nancye graduated from Benson High School in 1952 and attended Mars Hill College. While making plans to transfer to East Carolina Teachers’ College, she worked at Johnson Cotton Company where she met the love of her life, “Clem”. Needless to say, her plans to attend East Carolina Teachers’ College changed. “Clem” and Nancye were married on November 26, 1955. They made their home in Dunn, NC until moving to Maryland for “Clem” to attend dental school. Once “they” graduated – Nancye jokingly claimed to have earned two degrees – one in optometry while helping with family chores during the time her father attended school, and another in dentistry while helping “Clem” earn his dental degree – they made their home in Elizabethtown, NC.
Nancye was a loving, supportive wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt. She lovingly cared for her very busy family of six children, and their families. Nancye was a gracious hostess and excellent cook. Many will miss gathering to enjoy her good cooking, especially her pound cakes and banana pudding. Nancye sought the heart of God, and was a loyal and true servant of His. She loved the Lord, told everyone about Him, and freely ministered and counseled anyone in need. Nancye was ordained through the Family Prayer Center Ministries in Tulsa, OK in 2005. She and “Clem” were active members of the Elizabethtown Presbyterian Church for many years. In recent years they have been attending the Open Door Ministry in Elizabethtown. Nancye will be greatly missed.
