Raymond Martin Batten, 87, U.S. Army Veteran of Clarkton went to his eternal home on Thursday, January 21, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Batten and Effie Ludlum Batten, his wife, Shelby Batten, five brothers: Elmore, RJ, Hurbert, Earl and Ed and three sisters: Leona Britt, Eunice Singletary, and Annie Carpenter. He leaves behind two daughters, Pam Landreth (Hakim) of Clarkton, Rhonda Poythress (Jeff) of White Oak, five grandchildren: Chris Poythress, Charles Poythress, Ray Poythress (Jamie), John Landreth (Hailey), and Jeremy Landreth and three great grandchildren: Malikye Poythress, RaeAnna Landreth and Dalton Landreth.
Raymond was a compassionate man who adored his family. He was a truck driver by trade for 50 years. At other times, he was a preacher, carpenter, Clarkton Volunteer Fireman, and mechanic. His lived his life in this order, Jesus, Trucks, and mechanics. Going to church was his biggest hobby. He also enjoyed a good meal. Hard working hands of a great man now at rest.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at Bladen Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Elizabethtown. Rev. George Lashley of Beaverdam will be officiating the service.
