Preacher Vernon Hewett was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. His examples through farming, hunting and preaching had an impact on all those he encountered. The lessons he taught through his example and love will forever be remembered by his family and friends. Preacher Hewett was an avid bear hunter that spent many years in the woods building friendships through hunting. Many of his hunting buddies fondly referred to him as “Preacher”. Also, his family and friends knew he spent plenty of time taking care of his beloved hunting dogs. Although Preacher Hewett loved hunting, he loved the Lord more. He was saved in June of 1957 at a tent revival in Clarkton. He was called to preach in 1959 while being Superintendent at Clarkton Pentecostal Freewill Baptist Church. He went on to pastor for almost 57 years.
