Richard Joseph Polston

Richard Joseph Polston, formerly of Kelly, NC,  died in Columbia, South Carolina on Saturday, 3rd February 2024 from cancer. He was 85. He was born on July 22nd 1938 in McColl, SC to Howard and Doris Polston, who preceded him in death. He was a beloved brother, husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed playing softball with his family cheering him on in the audience, going fishing, spending time with his family, and going to church on Sundays. He was always laughing and joking, bringing smiles to the faces of everyone lucky enough to know him. 

 He worked in textile factories for many years, most recently at JP Stevens Factory in Wagram, North Carolina. He worked multiple jobs simultaneously to support his family before he retired, which shows how dedicated he was to making sure the people around him were well-taken care of. 

Richard is survived by his his daughter Pamela Jo Leviner; his son-in-law Doug Davee; his granddaughters Chasity Cannady, Crystal Martinez and Brittney Jenkins; his great grandchildren Tyler Cannady, Ethan Cannady, Skylar Cannady and Amerial Martinez; his sister Sylvia Chellis and his brothers Eugene Polston & Bill Polston. He is preceded in death by his wife Cynthia Ree Polston; his daughters Kim Jo Elmore and Tammy Jo Mills; his son-in-law Mike Mills; his grandson Joseph Elmore; his sister Juanita Fitzjohn; and his brothers Donnie & Jimmy Polston. 

The services will be held at Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home, 3131 MLK Drive, Elizabethtown NC 28337, with the wake at 1pm and the funeral at 2pm on Friday February 9th 2024. 

He is so loved, and his playful spirit and big smile will be deeply missed by all of us.
