Richard Thompson

R. Douglas Thompson, 86, of Clarkton, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family after a long battle with Alzheimer's. He is preceded in death by his parents, Preston and Maizie Thompson, two brothers, David and Derwood Thompson, and one sister, Gayle Suggs. Survivors include: wife, Betty Sue Thompson of the home, two sons, "Ritchie" Thompson and wife Lisa of Clarkton, Andy Thompson and wife Stephanie of Elizabethtown, one daughter, Sherry T. Britt and husband Mark of Clarkton, one brother, Jelder Thompson of Morehead City, two sisters, Alma Jean Smith and Ann Dulin of Charlotte. Grandchildren include: Lindsay Thompson, Doug Britt; Kaylyn Thompson, Sydney Thompson and Sierra Thompson.
Mr. Thompson was the owner of Thompson Accounting Service for a number of years. He was a lifelong member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening, working at the church, helping others and loved his Gideon work for the Lord.
Family will receive friends Sunday, April 03, 2016 at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Bladenboro at 1:30-2:45 pm followed by a funeral service at 3:00 pm and burial in church cemetery. Rev. Jimmy Strole will be officiating.
