Riles Porter Jr.

Riles Alexander Porter Jr., 82 of Clarkton passed away on Monday, February 25, 2013, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice surrounded by his family and friends.

Mr. Porter was born on August 14, 1930 to the late Riles A. Porter Sr. and Pauline Priest Porter. He is preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Haire Porter; two sisters, Louine Porter Dailey and Maureen Porter Hobbs. Mr. Porter was a member and elder of White Plains Presbyterian church and a member of the Woodmen of the World. He enjoyed working in his Daylilies, Azaleas and loved UNC Tar heels. He was in the US Army, served in the Korean War time as an MP at Fort Jackson, SC.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00pm.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at 2:00pm from White Plains Presbyterian Church with Revs. Paul Layton and Jim Bartlette officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Horeb Cemetery.

Mr. Porter is survived by his daughter, Caroline Porter Bowen of Clarkton, his sister, Betty Porter Roddy of Whiteville; and a special friend and companion Dora Register of Council.
