On Saturday, October 22, 2022, Jesus called Rita Carol Hair Meeks, age 78, of Bladenboro, home to be with her Lord. Rita, a devoted wife, loving mother, and great friend was born on November 13, 1943, to the late Lemauel “Bud” and Alva Hair.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents and the love of her life Kenneth R. Meeks. She is survived by one son, Michael Mark Meeks (Julie), one brother, Butch Hair (Connie), nephew, Ryan Hair (Shirley) and brothers-in-law Charles Meeks and Mike Morgan.
Before moving to Bladenboro, Rita spent 30 years as an Air Force wife traveling with her husband, Kenneth. She impacted many lives as she mentored young Air Force wives, volunteered in many areas, and promoted good will wherever she went. Her love for country, the US Air Force and all military spouses and families was apparent to all who knew her!
Rita’s Christian faith was very important to her, and she shared that faith willingly and often especially in her ladies Sunday school class which she taught while residing in Florida. She loved to read and study the Bible and continued to do so until poor eyesight prevented it. Rita was a member of Lennon’s Crossroads Baptist Church. Her kindness, generosity, and friendship will be missed by many.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at 11:00 am at the Bladen Gaskins Chapel in Bladenboro with the Reverend Fred Senter officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
