Robert Colton MacDuffee, M.D. of Elizabethtown died peacefully at home on December 7, 2009 following an extended illness.
Born in Princeton, NJ on April 23, 1923, to the late Cyrus Colton and Mary Bean MacDuffee, he was educated at the University of Chicago, receiving both an undergraduate and a medical degree. Following his graduation from medical school, he served in the US Army at Walter Reed Hospital and with the 1st Calvary Division in combat duty in Korea. Board certified in family practice and pathology, he practiced in Maine, Pennsylvania, and Florida. He retired from the Naples Medical Center, Naples, FL, where his source of pride was the founding of the Walk-In Clinic to provide affordable medical care to all people.
Dr. MacDuffee is survived by his wife of twenty-five years, Ann Jessup MacDuffee; daughters, Martha Cichelli and husband Richard of Nazareth, PA, Jennifer Gulley and husband Robert of Bellevue, KY and Susan MacDuffee of Palm Harbour, FL; granddaughters Sharon Cichelli and Morgan Schuberg; and sister Helen Berg of Portland OR. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister Mary Zulawski and a brother, Frederick MacDuffee, M.D.
Dr. MacDuffee was an elder in the Presbyterian Church USA, serving the sessions of Covenant Presbyterian Church, St. Petersburg, FL, First Presbyterian Church, Naples, FL, and Elizabethtown Presbyterian Church, Elizabethtown, NC. His interest in genealogy was well known and he could often be found in attendance at gatherings of Scottish Clans. He served as president of the MacDuffee Clan Society of America and enjoyed traveling to his ancestral sites in Scotland.
A graveside service will be held at the Elizabethtown City Cemetery prior to a Memorial Service of Worship at 11:00 AM at the Elizabethtown Presbyterian Church on Monday, December 28, 2009. The Rev. Dr. William G. Young and the Rev. Dr. Russell E. Mase will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the Service in the church fellowship hall.
