Roderick Morris

March 14, 1935 — June 8, 2008

Roderick \\"Harvey\\" Morris, Sr., 73, of Bladenboro passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 8, 2008.

Mr. Morris was preceded in death by his father, Roderick Fairly Morris and his mother Berta Coggings Morris and a brother, James Stuart Morris all of Maxton.

Mr. Morris was born on March 14, 1935 in Maxton, NC.; Harvey served in the US Army active duty receiving rank of captain and remained a member of the Reserve unit for 8 years. Harvey was very community oriented; serving as President of Dublin Lions Club several times. He was recently awarded the \\"Jack Stickley Fellow\\" plaque for dedicated humanitarian service to the Lions Club. He was also know as the \\" The Pumpkin Man\\" where he hosted many field trips for the school children. Stawberries and \\"Morris Improved Heading Collards\\" were also an important part of his life where he grew them with his two sons. He retired as an Agriculture Extention Agent where he served for 32 years. He was a long time member of Bethel Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher and Brotherhood director.

Mr. Morris is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Roberts Morris of the home; two sons, Roderick Harvey \\"Rick\\" Morris Jr. and wife Debbie of Bladenboro, Robert Dean Morris and wife Valerie of Bladenboro; Two granddaughters; Kelly Leigh Morris, Allison Brooke Morris and a grandson Robert MacKenzie Morris; one brother, LP Morris of Maxton; one sister, Jean Mattison of Tampa, Fl.; Also his mother-in-law Myrtle Roberts and extended Roberts family; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be Tuesday, June 10, 2008 from 6:00 until 8:00pm at Bladen Funeral Home.

The funeral will be Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at Bethel Baptist Church at 11:00AM with Rev. Warren Hill and Rev. Phillip McLean officiating. Burial will follow the service in the AG Roberts Family Cemetery, Old Hwy 41.
