The well known voice of Radio station WGQR 105.7 and WODR, Cool 105.3, Roland "Buddy" Edwards, age 59, of Bladenboro passed away Thursday, January 22, 2015. He spent more than 40 years of his life devoted to his love of music. Buddy began in 1972 preparing himself for a career in radio broadcast by listening at night to 50's and 60's music. He worked part time and full time for a number of radio stations including WBLA, WOOZ, WENC AM, WTXY, WYNA and WGQR until he found his place at WODR FM Cool 105.3. He was inducted into the Beach Music Radio Hall of Fame in November 2014. Buddy also played in a number of popular bands including Sassafras, Live Oak, South Bound, and Black & Blues. He filled in for many others as requested. Buddy is survived by his step-mother Margie Edwards of Elizabethtown, sister Cindy Macon and husband Milton and one niece, Melissa Macon, all of Riegelwood. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Sunday, January 25, 2015 at 4:00 pm at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Bladenboro. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
