Selma Seraphim

October 14, 1922 — January 15, 2017

Selma Elis Seraphim, 94, of Elizabethtown, entered into eternal rest Sunday, January 15, 2017. Selma came to this country September 2, 1969. She was preceded in death by her parents: Elias and Saydee Saroufin; her sisters were Mary Baddour, Wardy Saroufin and Adma-Mary; her brothers: Abraham Saroufin, Eli Saroufin, Saroufin Saroufin; brother-in-law, S.B. Baddour; sister-in-law: Nellie Farrah and nephew Sleiman Saroufin.

She is survived by her nephew: Badri Saroufin, his wife and their three children: Elaia, Charles, Samia. Nephew: Hyat Ibrahim Saroufin all of Lebanon and George Bakhach, son of Mariam Hayat Ibrahim Saroufin; two nieces: Theresa Saade of Lebanon and Theresa Ibrahim Saroufin of Montreal, Quebec. Selma loved all of Ms. Nellie Farrah's children and grandchildren. She had many friends.

During her years in Elizabethtown, Selma worked at Elizabethtown Industries for 26 years until they closed. She came to America to be a caregiver to her brother-in-law, S.B. Baddour, whom she sometimes called uncle, and her sister Mary Baddour. She spent much of her life as a homemaker when she was not working. Selma enjoyed cooking, crocheting, and making braided rugs. Her Afghans and rugs were on display throughout her home. They were used regularly. She would walk all over town each day when she was able. She was eager to learn new things and she always loved to share what she had. She helped others anyway she could. Selma's life was full of friends. She loved Jesus and displayed pictures of Jesus and rosaries throughout her home. She had a contagious smile that displayed a precious warmth that will be remembered by many. Selma always loved Christmas and put her manger scene on the porch with pride each year. She was a very thoughtful person always wanting to give her visitors a gift. She loved and appreciated her caregivers, who loved to see her smile. She was so thankful for having good caring people who loved her. Church was everything to her. She was an active member of Lady of the Snow Catholic Church in Elizabethtown. She altered scarves and gave sacrificially and regularly to her church.

Her visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown from 3-3:45pm with funeral service at 4pm. Father Joseph Yaeger will be officiating services. The burial will at Bladen Memorial Gardens in Elizabethtown.

Thank you to all those who offered rides to her, visited her, and helped her in so many ways. Selma will be greatly missed.
