Sidney Daniel Britt, age 95, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Southeastern Regional Medical Center. During his lifetime he owned and managed numerous businesses. He was involved in many religious and civic organizations always working for the improvement of Bladen County and his hometown of Bladenboro. He served two terms in the North Carolina General Assembly (1957 and 1959). Because of his service to his community, he was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Club International and the Order of the Long Leaf Pine by the state of North Carolina. At the age of fifty he was called into the ministry and pastored churches for the next forty years in Bladen, Brunswick, Columbus and Robeson counties.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years Sarah N. Britt, his son Lt. Col. Ronald P. Britt, and his daughter-in-law Sybil N. Britt; his parents, Paul T. and Letitia Hilburn Britt. He is survived by his son Frederick Britt of Bladenboro, his daughter-in-law Kathy Britt of Sherrill\\'s Ford, five grandchildren, Janet Huggins and Bobby of Elizabethtown, Suzanne Britt of Raleigh, Emily Jackson and Dwayne of Bladenboro, Holly Britt of Harrisburg and Todd Britt and Michelle of Huntersville; six great-grandchildren Britt and Paige Huggins, Sydney Jackson, Kailey, Maggie and Corinne Britt and a special sister-in-law Jennie Harris of White Lake.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 4, 2010 from 7:00 until 9:00 pm at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 5, 2010 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Bladenboro with Rev. Bert Young, Dr. Mack Roberts and Rev. Boyd Britt officiating. Burial will follow at Hickory Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
