SSG Tex Childers, 76, Retired U.S. Army Veteran of Bladenboro passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Monday, July 22, 2024. He was born in Breathitt, Kentucky the son of the late Bruce and Lile Ann Nix Childers.
Tex loved his family and his country. He served in the military for 16 years of active duty. He was a jokester by nature but had a serious side when it came to politics. Even in high school he was concerned about the issues in the world and served as president of his high school debate team and vice president of the FFA. Tex also had a love of numbers, cruising and playing cards. One always knew where they stood with him, if he liked you, he would talk and cut up with you, if he didn’t, it was like you weren’t even in the room.
He was a man of many talents and a heart of gold for both people and animals alike. He will be dearly missed.
Tex leaves behind his beloved wife, Lorraine B. Childers of the home, son Bobby Edwards (special friend Loretta) of Bladenboro, daughters Kathy Byrd of Bladenboro, Katrina Rhodes (Joe) of Butters, and Amanda Cox (Brett) of Lumberton, three sisters, Brenda Childers, Evelyn Bowling, both of Jackson, Ky and Hazel Cox of Indiana, five grandchildren Kayla Bridgers, Collan Bridgers, Laurel Edwards, Corbin Cox and Delaney Cox and four great grandchildren Cole Dicicco, Wyatt Dicicco, Kaison Holmes and Julian Bridgers . He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters Isabella Walters, Margaret Childers, and Alice Nobles and three brothers Carl Childers, Rex Childers and Timmy Childers.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at the Bladenboro Chapel of Bladen Gaskins in Bladenboro. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at 11:00 am in the Speight-Taylor Cemetery in Lumberton.
