Sylvia Thomas

Sylvia Owen Thomas, age 73, of Elizabethtown passed away on Monday, September 2, 2013 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Sylvia was born on March 10, 1940 and she was preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph and Lula Owen, her husband, Bennett Thomas and a brother, Doyle Owen.

Sylvia is survived by two daughters, Marla Dee Thomas of the home and Djuana Thomas Register and husband Jerry of Elizabethtown; two granddaughters, Lcpl. Erin DeGrave Trobaugh of Okinawa, Japan and Caroline Kate Register of Elizabethtown; her brothers, Stacy Owen and wife Judy of Elizabethtown and Bobby Wayne Owen and wife Donna of Virginia, and a very special friend, Rosalie Russ.

Sylvia was a member of the Bladen Belles, the Elizabethtown Chapter of ABWA and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She was a Girl Scout Leader for many years.

The family will receive friends on Friday, September 6, 2013 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Djuana Thomas Register, 607 Glenwood Dr., Elizabethtown, NC 28337. The funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 11:00 am at Trinity United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Old Trinity UMC Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church for the Building Fund at 106 S. Marvin Street, Elizabethtown, NC 28337 or charity of choice.
