Theron David Hursey II, 90, of Dublin, NC passed away on Tuesday, September 30,2014. He was born in Cumberland County on September 26, 1924, son of the late T. D. Hursey and Ruby K. Hursey.
He was preceded in death by his wife Wilma Carroll Hursey of 68 years, one brother, Floyd C Hursey and one granddaughter Roberta Lauren Hursey.
He is survived by one sister Mavis Hursey Singletary: one sister-in law, Marie Carroll Storms; two children, Abigail Hursey Jackson and husband Bill of Maryland and T. David Hursey, III and wife Jackie of Dublin; five grandchildren, Sheryl Lynn Cruz, Cristin Hursey, Carmen Hursey Greene, Davida Hursey Hall; two step-grandchildren, Henry and Matthew Batten; nine great grandchildren, Erica and Jackson Cruz, Weslyn and Madelyn Hall, Braxton and Brylan Kinlaw, Mason and Charlie Mckenzie Greene; Logan and Mary Catherine Batten and many nieces and nephews.
He attended Dublin Elementary School and graduated from Tar Heel High School in 1942.
In about 1940, he and his brother, Floyd, began building lawn furniture in a small one-room shop that grew into what is currently Dublin Woodwork Shop, now run by David's son, Theron David Hursey, III. The business has been a constant in Dublin for over 70 years, and specializes in custom cabinets and handmade furniture.
Through the years, David has been involved with many community efforts in Dublin . He was one of the founding members of Dublin First Baptist Church and was on the building committee of the church in 1951. In 1955, he was a charter member of Dublin Volunteer Fire Department and was the first official retiree after 30 years of active service, over 20 of which he was Assistant Chief. As a member of the Dublin Civics Club, David helped bring industry to town by recruiting Sachs Nut Co., now a part of Peanut Processors, Inc., and establishing the Dublin Medical Clinic in 1957.
David always enjoyed bowling, fishing, and boating. He and his late wife, Wilma, were avid travelers who explored all over the United States , going as far as Alaska before retiring at the age of 88.

The family will receive friends on Friday October 3, 2014 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home. The funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2012 at 1:00 pm at Dublin First Baptist Church with Rev. Cameron McGill. Burial will follow in Allen Cemetery.
