Vernnie Kinard

Vernnie Ruth Mayes Kinard, age 81 of White Oak, died Saturday, January 15, 2011 at Southeastern Hospice House in Lumberton.



Ms. Kinard was born to Richard Mayes and Snodie Britt Mayes on September 22, 1929. She spent her whole life working hard as a Mom and a homemaker. Her husband, Benjamin, served in the Army and Ms. Kinard faithfully followed and supported him for 24 years while he served. During that time he served two tours in Vietnam and one tour in Korea.



She was a member of Orrum Baptist Church and transferred her membership to Tar Heel Baptist Church where she was a member for 30 years.



Ms. Kinard is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Benjamin F. Kinard; father and mother, Richard Mayes and Snodie Mayes; four brothers, Rembret Mayes, J.D. Mayes, Roscoe Mayes, and Cecil Mayes; and three sisters, Ruby Neil Rogers; Opal Wilson and Gladys Sherman.



She is survived by sons, Franklin Ray Kinard and wife Sharon of Waldorf, Maryland and Thomas David Kinard of Nashville, TN; daughters, Alice Faye Davis of White Oak, Jeanette Ruth Williams of White Oak, and Cathy Jean Barnes and husband Jerry of Tar Heel; a sister, Ann Lois Davis and husband Winfred of Lumberton. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Michelle Briggs and husband Stephen of Fayetteville, Jason Carnes and wife Tracie of Fayetteville, Jamie Player of Fayetteville, Wendy Williams of Fayetteville, Jennifer Trujillo and husband Tony of Norfolk, VA, Angel Marie Jones of Fayetteville, Joshua Kinard of Waldorf, MD and Jacob Kinard of Waldorf, MD; and seven great grandchildren, Katlyn Marie Calcutt, Scottie Carnes, Jonathan Carnes, Ryan Council, Robert Council, Brandon Council and Jacob Trujillo.



The funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Tar Heel Baptist Church with Rev. John Rollyson and Rev. Warren Hill officiating. The visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Tar Heel Baptist Church Cemetery.
