Vernon Lee Thompson, age 80 of Bladenboro, died Sunday, August 31, 2014 at Autumn Care of Fayetteville. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Jetta Thompson; four brothers, Wade, Junior, Shad, and William. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty Guyton Thompson; two sons, Chris Thompson and wife Donna of Fort Mill, SC and Clifton Thompson of Bladenboro; two daughters, Veronica Hester and husband Leroy of Bladenboro and Regina Drake and husband Jason of Eastover; a brother, James Craven Thompson and sister, Betty Rose Priest; ten grandchildren, Adam, Alicia, Allyson, Britney, Carolyn, Matthew, Morgan, Sidney, Austin and Shannon; and four great grandchildren, Kassidy, Bristol, Aleigha, and Paislee.
An avid gardener, Vernon loved to grow vegetables to share with others. He enjoyed visiting with friends and was a wonderful caregiver, husband, father, and grandfather. He was a godly man who put others first.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home. Services will be conducted on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Church officiated by Pastor Dwayne Lambeth and Pastor Ernest Wilson Bryan. Burial will follow at Community Baptist Cemetery. The family will also receive friends at the family home, 2751 NC Hwy 410 in Bladenboro.
