Walter Lawrence Campbell of Elizabethtown NC peacefully passed away on Monday March 8th, 2021. Walter will rest in peace at Mt. Horeb Presbyterian Church surrounded by many generations of family on historic land that was donated by the Campbell clan in 1845. The family is gathering for a private graveside service.
Proceeded in death by his mother Anita Johnson Campbell and father Delma Byron Campbell, Walter is survived by his wife Sheila Morgan Campbell and two children: son William Seth Campbell, daughter Shaun Campbell Stripling, son-in law Robert Scott Stripling and two lovely granddaughters Ava Wade Stripling and Astrid Olin Stripling of Winston-Salem NC. Walter is also survived by his brother Delma Stephen Campbell, wife Donna Campbell, niece Trista Campbell McLaurin Daniel McLaurin and grand-nieces Campbell, Caitlynn and Caroline.
In addition to his family, Mr. Campbell dedicated his life to his work and his community. He was passionate about his chosen fields of finance, business development and farming, having helped to build and grow several local businesses over the years. Equally measured was his love of the outdoors, he enjoyed many seasons of hunting and comradery as a long-time member of the North State Game Club and also traveled throughout the country exploring new wilderness, hunting experiences and collecting new friends. But most of all, he loved Bladen County and specifically Elizabethtown and White Lake. Having lived here for his entire life, he fondly recalled many wonderful memories of playing State Championship football at Elizabethtown High School and was a charter member of the volunteer fire and rescue department.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the North State Game Club Foundation, 723 South Boylan Avenue, Apt. 101, Raleigh, NC 27603 or The Boys and Girls Home of North Carolina at 400 Flemington Dr, Lake Waccamaw, NC 28450.
