Wanda Carolyn Smith, 66, of Elizabethtown went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 9, 2022. She was born to Douglas Smith and Claudette Butler Smith of Dublin on December 8, 1955.
From the time she was born, Wanda was a joy to her family and an asset to her church. She was never able to read or write however that never stopped the Lord from using her in a mighty way. Wanda had a gift of a beautiful voice, and she could sing without even knowing a single music note or looking at the hymn book. She learned simply by watching and listening to the choir director. Wanda also knew how to love unconditionally. She enjoyed giving hugs to everyone, except maybe her brothers, until her physical abilities no longer allowed her. But that never stopped her from showing she cared, for if you visited her in the nursing home, she would blow you a kiss. That was her way of saying “I love you and I appreciate you’. Wanda loved to collect dolls and loved to listen to her record player. Her favorite tune was Billy Joel’s “Uptown Girl”, and she would play it over and over. She loved Christmas time and gathering around the table with her family. Their earth angel has now gone on to that home in the sky, but she left a little bit of heaven in the hearts of all that knew and love her.
Wanda leaves behind her mother, Claudette Butler Smith of Dublin, her brothers, Douglas G. Smith, wife Debbie and children, Kendall Smith (Morgan) and Heather Smith, and Jeffrey Smith, his wife Holly and children Hannah and John Hedgepeth, April Smith and Brandy Decker, and sister Linda Raynor and son Doug Raynor (Amanda). She was preceded in death by her father Douglas F. Smith.
The family will receive friends from 2-2:45 pm on Friday, May 13th at Dublin Pentecostal Freewill Baptist Church followed by a funeral service at 3:00 pm. The Reverend Michael Burney and Reverend Donald Carlyle will be officiating. Burial will follow the services in the Singletary Cemetery in Dublin.
