Wayne McRae "Lazy Man" Evers, 64, of Dublin passed away peacefully at the home he shared with his cousin, Ernest Evers on Monday, February 24, 2014, surrounded by family and friends. He was born July 7, 1950 on Center Road in Bladenboro. Wayne is preceded in death by his father, Herbert Evers and survived by his mother; Virginia Rose Evers Deans of Bladenboro, two daughters; Jessica Evers Pait and husband BJay and Megan Evers, of Dublin, one brother; Steve Evers and wife Linda and one sister; Carolyn Evers Dowless and husband Steve of Bladenboro, three grandchildren, 4 nieces and nephews and 3 great nephews, and two very special friends; Ms. Donna Norris of Elizabethtown and Mrs. Amy Clark of Dublin. He graduated Bladenboro High School in 1968. Wayne served in the United States Army from 1970-71 as a weapons infantryman with the Delta Raiders, 101st Airborne. Wayne fought for his country in The Vietnam War until becoming wounded in 1971. He was awarded many medals including a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. Wayne was the founding president of the Reedy Meadow Hunting Club. He loved spending time with his family and friends, hunting, watching sports and was an avid Duke Basketball fan. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, loved the Lord and always gave God the glory due. Wayne was loved by all that knew him and will be missed by his many family members and friends. Visitation will be held at Center Road Baptist Church on Thursday from 6 -8 p.m. and services will be Friday at 11 a.m., also at Center Road Baptist church. Burial will be immediately following the service at New Pait Cemetery on Center Road in Bladenboro. The family will receive visitors after the burial at the home of Mr. Evers on Brisson Carroll Road in Dublin. Service entrusted to Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown, NC.
