William “Billy” Dee Johnson, 86, U.S. Army Veteran of Elizabethtown passed away on Sunday, March 28, 2021. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Carter Johnson of the home, one daughter Crystal Renee’ Storms (Brian) of Clarkton, one sister Betty Ann Johnson of Clarkton, granddaughter Brittany Renee Simmons (Josh) also of Clarkton, two great grandchildren, Hunter Blake Simmons and Hayleigh Brooke Simmons, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and his fur baby “Bella”. Billy also leaves behind some special friends, Billy Babson, Robert Jessup, Marilyn Kennedy, and Vanessa Thompson. He was preceded in death by his parents, M.D. Johnson and Leola White Johnson, one son William D. Johnson Jr., one brother Robert Theodore Johnson, and one grandson Jeremy Michael Cain.
Billy was a hardworking, honest man. He always put family first, doing everything together. They enjoyed grilling out, traveling to the beach or mountains, and camping. He was employed for 42 years with Sampson Bladen Oil Company as a truck driver. He loved driving that truck. Upon retirement, Billy enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife, his dog Bella, his cat Flash and doing yard work. He was a long-time member of Trinity Methodist Church in Elizabethtown. He will be dearly missed.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 from 2-3 pm at Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. Funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm in the chapel with Rev. Barry Helms officiating. Burial will follow the service in Bladen Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Elizabethtown. All attendees are asked to wear masks and practice social distancing.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Lower Cape Fear Lifecare Center for all the love, care and support shown to Billy and his family.
