William Kelly Johnston Sr., 82, of Elizabethtown passed away on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at his home surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roney Kelly Johnston and Mattie Elizabeth Mote Johnston, two brothers Alton Johnston and Richmond Johnston, and three sisters, Annie Mae Turner, Faye Malone, and Ruby Maness. William leaves behind his loving wife, Sarah Robinson Johnston of the home, son William K. Johnston Jr. of Elizabethtown, two daughters, Mary McMillian of Elizabethtown and Kelly Ann Simmons of Junction City, KA, one sister Christine Rogers of Siler City, NC, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
William was a strong willed, dedicated brother, husband, and grandfather. His family was his heart. He and his wife were inseparable, where you saw one the other was close behind. William always had a head for business. He not only ran a service station with his wife but also a trucking company and Kelly’s pine straw business. He enjoyed working with his hands and could fix anything. William was a hard worker, but home was always his happy place. His leaving has left a void that can never be filled but his loved ones will continue to cherish the legacy he left until they meet again.
The family will receive friends from 12:30pm-1:45pm at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown on Sunday, December 26, 2021. A funeral service will be held at 2pm with Rev. Ralph Carter, Jr. and Rev. Carey Horrell officiating. Burial will follow services in the Beard's Chapel Church Cemetery in White Lake.
